Movies List for 1999

There's Something About Mary (1998)seen 10 Jan 99 · 8 out of 10

Had a lot of fun watching this.

Ronin (1998)seen 16 Jan 99 · 8 out of 10

We watched this at a special showing at the Hyderabad Film Festival.

Rush Hour (1998)seen 24 Jan 99 · 8 out of 10

Terrific movie, this one.  Unfortunately when we went to see this in the theatre, they had blanked out the swear words... and this in a movie that has very little profanity!

The Net (1995)seen 28 Jan 99 · 7 out of 10

One of the early movies I saw on AXN Action TV.  Entertaining movie with Sandra Bullock.

Urban Legend (1998)seen 30 Jan 99 · 5 out of 10

The movie had a few nice shocks but that was all there was.  At the end of it all I didn't like it.

New Crime City: Los Angeles 2020 A.D. (1994)seen 2 Feb 99 · 6 out of 10

This was another movie I saw on AXN.  It was only afterwards that I realised that this is actually a low budget imitation of Escape from New York.  But it was not a bad movie.

Dead Heat (1988)seen 5 Feb 99 · 7 out of 10

Another AXN movie.  I remember this was quite a fun movie, I wish they'd show it again.

The Client (1994)seen 7 Feb 99 · 7 out of 10

STAR Movies showed this.

Lionheart (1990)seen 10 Feb 99 · 6 out of 10

AXN seemed to like showing Van Damme movies.  Anyway this is one of his earlier movies and not that good.

Dead-End Drive In (1986)seen 11 Feb 99 · 6 out of 10

Another movie on AXN.

Project Shadowchaser III (1994)seen 13 Feb 99 · 7 out of 10

I remember I actually bought a tape of this movie (with the title Project Shadowchaser: Beyond the Edge of Darkness) a long time ago, but I returned it.  This time I got to see a good print of it on AXN, and I wish they'd show it again, it's quite a fun movie.

Shadowchaser 4 (1996)seen 14 Feb 99 · 4 out of 10

A nonsensical movie with absolutely no relation to the previous Shadowchaser movies.  Until AXN showed this one I didn't even know there was a Shadowchaser 4.  Turns out this movie also has another title, one that I don't recollect at the moment.

Prophet (1998)seen 17 Feb 99 · 4 out of 10

I was excited when I saw the ad for this movie on STAR Movies - after all, it stars Don "The Dragon" Wilson!  But unfortunately this was a pretty bad movie with a silly plot and ineffective action scenes.

Desperado (1995)seen 19 Feb 99 · 8 out of 10

Now THIS is what I call a good movie.  After watching several less than average movies I was relieved to see this on AXN.  I like Robert Rodriguez movies now!

Full Contact (1992)seen 23 Feb 99 · 8 out of 10

STAR Movies showed this movie several times but I never got to see it fully.  This time I got to see it on AXN.  This remake of Bloodfist is very good and I actually like this movie a lot because of the action scenes.  This is another movie I wish they'd show again.

Soldier (1998)seen 27 Feb 99 · 8 out of 10

Paul Anderson movie starring Kurt Russell.  It was quite good.

Drive (1996)seen 4 Mar 99 · 9 out of 10

When I started watching this movie on AXN I had no idea it would be this good.  This movie is for some reason not known very well, but those who have seen it like it a lot.

12:01 (1993)seen 5 Mar 99 · 9 out of 10

This is a made-for-TV movie that was shown on STAR Movies.  This movie was an unexpected surprise, it was very good!

Dark City (1998)seen 13 Mar 99 · 9 out of 10

Wow, one of the best and most unusual movies I have ever seen!  Very dark though, there's light only at the very end of the movie... and it was a weird feeling coming out of the theatre...

Raw Courage (1983)seen 17 Mar 99 · 6 out of 10

Saw this on AXN.

Saving Private Ryan (1998)seen 3 Apr 99 · 8 out of 10

Airborne (1997)seen 10 Apr 99 · 6 out of 10

AXN showed this movie.  I had never heard of this movie before, and it was an average movie.

Bean (1997)seen 11 Apr 99 · 8 out of 10

Regardless of what others may say I liked this movie a lot.

The Best of the Martial-Arts Films (1990)seen 24 Apr 99 · 8 out of 10

I recorded this from STAR Movies the previous night and watched it on that afternoon.  That was the day my II Year Intermediate Final Exams got over.  This was a documentary with clips from several martial arts movies, narrated by John Saxon.

Knock Off (1998)seen 25 Apr 99 · 7 out of 10

The only problem with this Van Damme action-comedy is that it didn't make sense at all.  Otherwise thanks to director Tsui Hark there are several great action scenes.

The Game (1997)seen 25 Apr 99 · 9 out of 10

STAR Movies showed this movie that night.  Directed by David Fincher, one of my favourite directors, so obviously it was a very good movie!

Executive Command (1997)seen 27 Apr 99 · 6 out of 10

Title sound familiar?  Well, this is a low budget ripoff of Executive Decision with even a look-alike of Kurt Russell in it (Michael Dudikoff).  I wouldn't say it was a very bad movie though.

Cyborg Cop III (Terminal Impact) (1995)seen 28 Apr 99 · 4 out of 10

Watched this on AXN.  Bad acting, idiotic story, worth watching if you are looking for a good laugh.

A Bug's Life (1999)seen 6 May 99 · 7 out of 10

Frankly I don't remember much of this movie now...

Hard Target (1993)seen 13 May 99 · 8 out of 10

Watched this on CD, on the computer.  Great action movie, John Woo's first American release.  Only one problem, why do none of the bad guys' bullets ever hit Van Damme even when he's right in front of them?

Star Trek: Insurrection (1998)seen 17 May 99 · 8 out of 10

The only Star Trek movie I have seen in a theatre to date.  This was the day I wrote my EAMCET exam.

Money Train (1995)seen 17 May 99 · 8 out of 10

Watched this one on AXN at night.  Funny and with lots of action - enjoyed it!

Runaway (1984)seen 25 May 99 · 7 out of 10

This is a movie directed by Michael Crichton.  I remember watching it (many years back - 1993 or 1994) under a different title.  It was actually called Shadowchaser 2 when it came out on video here!  This time I watched it on AXN.

Runseen 26 May 99 · 7 out of 10

I watched this on STAR Movies.  I also saw it several years back!

Canadian Bacon (1994)seen 26 May 99 · 4 out of 10

I thought this was a pretty unfunny movie.

The Chase (1971)seen 28 May 99 · 4 out of 10

An old dubbed Chinese martial arts movie.

Big Trouble in Little China (1986)seen 5 Jun 99 · 8 out of 10

I saw this movie on STAR Movies back in 1995.  I watched it again when they showed it after a very long gap.

Blackjack (1998)seen 15 Jun 99 · 6 out of 10

A made-for-TV movie that was shown on AXN.  Not very good, but since John Woo directed it, it was worth watching.

House (1985)seen 16 Jun 99 · 7 out of 10

Watched this on STAR Movies one night.  Strange horror-comedy.

Hyderabad Blues (1996)seen 19 Jun 99 · 7 out of 10

A fun comedy, written and directed by Nagesh Kukunoor.  Watched this on TV (I think it was on STAR Plus).

Cyber-Tracker (1994)seen 22 Jun 99 · 6 out of 10

A Don "The Dragon" Wilson movie that I rented out on tape.  Unfortunately it was a very old tape and I couldn't even watch the movie properly.  I would like to see this one again.

Double Team (1997)seen 23 Jun 99 · 8 out of 10

I got the video of this and watched it.  But it was a very bad quality video and I only got to see it properly later.

Event Horizon (1997)seen 25 Jun 99 · 8 out of 10

Again, the tape I got of this movie wasn't a good print.  But I saw it again several times later, on tape and also on HBO and STAR Movies.

The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988)seen 28 Jun 99 · 8 out of 10

A very funny movie!

Jackie Brown (1998)seen 2 Jul 99 · 8 out of 10

I got this movie on tape and the video quality wasn't very good.  I'm going to have to see it again to make a proper judgement.

The Cyberstalking (1998)seen 4 Jul 99 · 4 out of 10

Science fiction movie about virtual reality, etc. but just not very good.  Directed by Julian Grant.

Blown Away (1994)seen 11 Jul 99 · 5 out of 10

This movie, I saw on STAR Movies.

The Matrix (1999)seen 12 Jul 99 · 9 out of 10

This was the first time I saw this movie in the theatre.  A couple of weeks or so later I saw it again.  Great movie, this.

The One Armed Boxer (2000)seen 16 Jul 99 · 5 out of 10

Badly dubbed, badly acted Chinese martial arts movie.  Gets ridiculous at times.  I think I wrote a review of this - it's lying around somewhere.

Scream 2 (1997)seen 17 Jul 99 · 8 out of 10

Yes, I saw the sequel before I saw the first movie.  Good movies, both.

City Hunter (1994)seen 21 Jul 99 · 8 out of 10

Jackie Chan movie that takes craziness to a new level.  This movie is a lot of fun but unfortunately the tape I saw had many many scenes missing for no apparent reason.  I must watch a proper version of this sometime.

The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996)seen 23 Jul 99 · 6 out of 10

I saw this on STAR Movies.  This was a pretty famous action movie but I didn't like it much.

Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988)seen 25 Jul 99 · 7 out of 10

Gory horror movie, fun to watch.

Scream (1996)seen 26 Jul 99 · 8 out of 10

Lots of twists and plenty of violent horror in this well made movie.

Marshal Law (1996)seen 30 Jul 99 · 6 out of 10

I think I saw this one in the morning one day on STAR Movies.  I remember it wasn't very good, and there were these so-called flashy shots that intercut video-like jerky footage with film footage.  That got irritating.

The Prince of Egypt (1999)seen 2 Aug 99 · 8 out of 10

I saw this movie in the theatre and the visuals were amazing.  It was a good movie too.

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991)seen 8 Aug 99 · 8 out of 10

I watched this on TV.  I knew this movie very well because of the Bryan Adams song in the soundtrack, but the movie itself is very nicely made.

Night Hunter (1995)seen 10 Aug 99 · 7 out of 10

Interesting Don "The Dragon" Wilson movie - he stars as Jack Cutter, a Vampire Hunter.  I got this one on video and watched it.  Had an unusual and good music score and overall was a pretty OK movie.

Ring of Fire (1991)seen 13 Aug 99 · 5 out of 10

I watched this movie only because Don "The Dragon" Wilson was in it.  I didn't like it.  The sequel is far far better.

Jackie Chan: My Stunts (1998)seen 14 Aug 99 · 8 out of 10

I rented this one out on video.  Videotape was of very nice quality and so was this very interesting documentary.  Jackie Chan fans must see this!

Dragons Forever (1986)seen 16 Aug 99 · 6 out of 10

I don't know whether it was just the less than average quality of the videotape I saw this on... but this movie was pretty boring.

The Dead Next Door (1989)seen 17 Aug 99 · 8 out of 10

J.R. Bookwalter's ultra low budget zombie movie!  Inventively made, and the documentary The Making of The Dead Next Door which was also on the same videotape made me appreciate the movie even more.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992)seen 21 Aug 99 · 6 out of 10

Not the popular TV series with Sarah Michelle Gellar, rather the original movie with Kristy Swanson.  There were some funny moments in the movie but overall it can't hope to compare with the much better TV show.  By the way I lost interest in the TV show quite a long time ago.

Dune Warriors (2000)seen 27 Aug 99 · 2 out of 10

Possibly one of the worst movies I have ever seen.  Fortunately it's very short... unfortunately it was boring even then!  Watched it on STAR Movies one afternoon.

Ring of Fire III: Lion Strike (1994)seen 28 Aug 99 · 6 out of 10

Don "The Dragon" Wilson being in this movie was motivation enough to make me want to see it.  This movie was OK at best, not one of The Dragon's better movies.

Ghostbusters II (1987)seen 11 Sep 99 · 8 out of 10

I remember watching this movie many many years ago.  This time I watched it when AXN showed it.  Very good indeed.

Last Man Standing (1996)seen 19 Sep 99 · 7 out of 10

I watched this on STAR Movies and recorded it.  I have to watch it again to make a proper judgement.

Hard Rain (1997)seen 23 Sep 99 · 7 out of 10

Interesting little action movie.  I don't remember where exactly I saw it - I think it was on STAR Movies.

Hysteria (1997)seen 24 Sep 99 · 5 out of 10

Pretty weird movie with madness as it's main theme.

Home Alone 3 (1997)seen 6 Oct 99 · 7 out of 10

I wasn't expecting this to be a very good movie, but surprisingly it's quite fun.  STAR Movies showed it.

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991)seen 9 Oct 99 · 9 out of 10

Star Trek movies are always entertaining and this was no exception.  Only wish the tape quality had been better.

Get Shorty (1995)seen 10 Oct 99 · 8 out of 10

I'm going to have to see it again to make a proper judgement.  But when I saw this on STAR Movies I remember it was good.

The Mummy (1999)seen 12 Oct 99 · 7 out of 10

The effects were amazing in the theatre, and the movie wasn't too bad either!

Fled (1996)seen 16 Oct 99 · 6 out of 10

This action movie from director Kevin Hooks (Passenger 57) was shown on STAR Movies.  I liked the opening theme music, but as the movie progressed it started dragging and in the end I didn't like it much.

The Corruptor (1999)seen 19 Oct 99 · 5 out of 10

Saw this one in the theatre.  I didn't like it.  Maybe I need to see it again.

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999)seen 23 Oct 99 · 7 out of 10

The effects were good but I didn't think this movie was as good as the other Star Wars movies.

Escape From New York (1981)seen 13 Nov 99 · 7 out of 10

Fast moving action movie directed by John Carpenter.  I saw this first on STAR Movies.

The Sixth Sense (1999)seen 20 Nov 99 · 9 out of 10

M. Night Shyamalan's first movie!  Terrific directing, writing and acting.  Saw it in the theatre.

Crying Freeman (1995)seen 30 Nov 99 · 7 out of 10

STAR Movies showed this movie, and I recorded it.  I must watch it again.  I remember it was good though.

The Fifth Element (1997)seen 4 Dec 99 · 8 out of 10

When this movie first came out in theatres, I never got around to seeing it.  Fortunately AXN showed it and I thought this was a lot of fun!

Johnny Handsome (2000)seen 11 Dec 99 · 6 out of 10

Watched this on STAR Movies.  Violent, nasty and in general not that good.

Deep Blue Sea (1999)seen 18 Dec 99 · 6 out of 10

Watching it in the theatre once was more than enough.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)seen 25 Dec 99 · 7 out of 10

While the animation was amazing, somehow this is not my type of movie (musical I mean).  Had a weird sense of humour.  Seen on STAR Movies.

Anastasia (1997)seen 26 Dec 99 · 7 out of 10

STAR Movies showed this.  Nicely done but I wouldn't want to see it again.

Doctor Dolittle (1999)seen 26 Dec 99 · 7 out of 10

STAR Movies showed this right after Anastasia that night.  Nice movie, but again, I won't want to see it again.

Dark Fate 2 — a Doom II map by Karthik Abhiram

Dark Fate 2 is a singleplayer level for Doom II, replacing MAP01.  It's a small-sized hellish level — and there's a walkthrough video as well.
