Now what are the odds of those topics in the headline coming together again?  Anyway, first the Doom stuff.  In a recent update at Doom Center, Bigdog has posted a comic made by Doomworld webmaster Linguica (about Doom Center's new redesign).  I found this thing very well written and really funny!

I also downloaded the latest beta version of ZDoom 2.0, and it's great - there's full support for Hexen in this, and also many more options to tweak.  There is also a feature that allows you to use FM synth for music, which basically means you can make the MIDI music sound like you have a 16-bit soundcard.  Brings back memories of 1998 for me!

I also downloaded a few new MIDIs and MP3s.  When I first heard it, I did not like this song, Aserejé (The Ketchup Song) by Las Ketchup.  But they keep playing this often on TV nowadays, and it's sort of grown on me.  Anyway I got the song on both MP3 and MIDI, and also got the lyrics.  I went to Dictionary.com to translate it, and while I was at it, I also tried translating the lyrics of Cancion del Mariachi by Antonio Banderas and Los Lobos (from the Desperado soundtrack), and Feuer Frei by Rammstein (from the XXX soundtrack).  The computer translation wasn't great (I wasn't expecting a fully annotated version or anything, heh) but even then some translated parts of these songs did make sense.  Later, I played about with the translator, submitting some more queries of words found in movies and games.

What the translator told me -

• hasta la vista (Spanish) - Good bye (remember Terminator 2?)
• vaya con dios and vaya con diablos (Spanish) - Go with God and Go with Devils respectively (this is from Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight)
• jägermörder (German) - hunter murderer (this is the name of a Doom II level by Afterglow)
• feuer frei (German) - fire freely

I got MIDIs of some horror movie themes and also a couple of other songs (conicidentally, two of them are songs on the soundtrack of Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls - these are Spirits in the Material World and Secret Agent Man).
